UNESCO Chairs are distinguished by outstanding research and teaching achievements in the UNESCO’s fields of activity. The principles, on which their work is based, include building international networks, especially in the service of North-South and North-South-South cooperationExternal link:[RB1] , and promoting intercultural dialogue. UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks contribute to creating, spreading and applying knowledge in a more globally balanced manner, which in turn promotes sustainable development.

In order to fully tap the programme’s potential and increase the visibility of UNESCO in Germany, the German Commission for UNESCO is bundling the network’s expertise at the national level and is working intensively with the UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Network.
