As model regions for sustainable development, UNESCO Geoparks aim to develop realistic paths forward for selected geographic regions and address the world’s social challenges, such as finite natural (and especially geological) resources and climate change.

There are around 200 UNESCO Geoparks worldwide, several of which are located in Germany. They work closely together to help people – also in other countries – gain a better understanding of Earth’s history and to shape the future there in a sustainable way.
