Network: Roundtable Sudan

On December 13, the German Commission for UNESCO initiated a Round Table on the current situation in Sudan, which was held at the Wissenschaftsforum in Berlin.

The 25 participants, representing various organizations and bringing together expertise from Germany and Sudan, exchanged ideas and knowledge on ways to create joint support structures for education, science, culture and communication. Wibke Hansen from the Center for International Peace Operations, gave a keynote speech and emphasized the extraordinary strength of civil society in Sudan. The online presentation by the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo not only showed devastating images of destroyed museums and archives but also highlighted concrete initiatives and projects – such as those related to digitization – that could serve as a basis for support structures from Germany. All participants agreed that the largest conflict in Africa must receive significantly more attention.
