Cultural expressions directly related to human knowledge and skills are central to the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In December 2011, the German parliament has voted cross-factional for intitiating the ratification process of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage. State and federal governments are currently considering the conditions for ratification. They are working towards viable procedures for implementing the convention on the national level. Based on current information, the ratification process is expected to be completed in 2012.
